Ropeway in
Darjeeling is a 5 kms long ropeway opened for all tourists to enjoy as being a
part of the Himalayas from North Point in the town till Singla on the bank of
River Ramman. This ropeway has a total number of 16 cable cars that has the
capacity of 6 persons in each car. It is also called as Rangeet Valley Cable
Care as it takes the tourists through a remarkable view of the valley around
the pretty Rangeet. This ropeway is specially constructed for tourism only.

History of Ropeway in Darjeeling
Darjeeling Ropeway
was first started in the year 1968. It is the first cable car to be operated in
India. At first it was started with only one cable car. It was revamped and
stopped from 1998 to October 2003. Later with proper maintenance and
restricting this ropeway fully resumed for the tourists from 2nd
February, 2012. This is the first ropeway of Darjeeling. It was operated by the
West Bengal Forest Development Corporation and Ropeway Services Private
Limited.

Duration of Ropeway in Darjeeling
The ropeway takes
at least 45 minutes to reach SinglaBaza which is 8 kms away from the starting
point. The gondolas take 2 kms runs from Singamari which is adjacent to the
famous St. Joseph’s School of Darjeeling on the outskirts of Darjeeling town at
6500 ft to Tukhbar Tea Garden at 6,000 ft.

who travel by flight Bagdogra is the nearest airport which is 90 kms away. This
airport is well connected with the major cities. A shared cab or rented taxi
can be an option to choose for a wonderful road trip to reach the main town of
Darjeeling.
Train – For the
train travellers there are two prominent stations at the distance of 88 km from
Darjeeling Railway station in New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri. These stations have
direct railway connections with Kolkata, Guwahati, Delhi and other prime cities
of the country. There is a toy train service from NJP to Darjeeling Railways
Station but it takes a long time of 6-7 hours to reach the final destination.
Hence, maximum tourists prefer to take the vehicle ride that takes 2.5-3 hours
to reach Darjeeling.

Road –One can hire a cab or shared taxi from Siliguri junction or Darjeeling More to reach Darjeeling via road. Buses are available from Tenzin Norgay Bus Stand, Siliguri as well. Covering a distance of 77 kms from Siliguri one can enjoy the foothill national highway till the hill.
From Darjeeling
main town the distance is only about 20 mins in vehicle till Tenzin Rock.
